Google Consent Mode V2 Module

Description

Google Consent Mode V2 is a Google technology that makes it easier for websites to comply with user privacy regulations such as the GDPR.
With this module, online stores can optimize how they collect, analyze and use data, in line with the preferences visitors express about how their data is handled
and processed.

How does the Google Consent Mode V2 module work?
First of all, your online store must run on OpenCart 2.3 or 3.x.

When visitors land on the site, they are asked for permission to use cookies or other tracking technologies.
This is done through a banner or modal that shows the cookie preferences. Based on the visitor's choice, the site sends a signal to Google services with the consent status.
For example, if a visitor has consented to advertising or analytics cookies, they are shown options to customize their preferences and control how their data is used.

If a visitor does not consent to advertising cookies, Google Ads will not show them personalized ads.
Similarly, without consent for analytics cookies, Google Analytics will not collect complete data about that visitor.

Google Consent Mode V2 has been in effect since March 2024, and implementing it is mandatory to avoid penalties and keep Google Ads and Google Analytics fully functional. Not implementing it can lead to:

• Suspension of the Google account for sites that do not follow the rules.
• Limited data collection, which affects ad performance analysis and audience management.
• Difficulties optimizing campaigns because of restrictions on available data.
• A drop in site traffic and visitor numbers.

The module displays the cookie permissions without a detailed list of individual cookies.

This module is compatible with OpenCart 2.3 and 3.x.
